Kiwitopsite came about because of a little boredom. I use the internet quite a lot and just browse and learn. I was searching .co.nz domains(try it in a search engine) and there was a lot of little guys out there I, for one, never heard of, and two, never seen their website before. I decided to build something for them, that will help them be found and hopefully get their websites out there for New Zealand to see.

Now. Before I go any further, I have to say New Zealand webmasters/business owners are slow to promote. They may very well have the best website for their product or service, slap up a website and expect it to be noticed. I can only assume they have the URL on a business card or Yellow pages, even painted on the shop window. But if you are there, you certainly are not on the internet looking for them. For some reason they have a webpage with snailmail address, a couple of product images along with phone number, even their open hours (whats with that!?)and no analytics what so ever. Contact is the one where you click it and outlook opens. They also want something free for $$$$ or want me to pay them for listing. New Zealanders are yet to get up to date with the world of the internet. Since webmastering, I have found that a business will just pay someone to make a website, stick it up and then charge $300 to change an image every month and yearly fees. All this without promotion or analytics. Within a couple of hours you can learn this stuff and do it yourself in minutes, everytime.
Topsites are notorious for spammers and hackers, keeping them out is a big job. If, like mine, you make a country specific one you have to keep out others. Yet you still want them to browse, incase they wish to use a New Zealand service that is listed. It maybe immigration or a product that is required, locking out everyone is not really desirable.
Plenty of Topsites and search engines out there.
Yes there is. But I want to offer something else. I looked at NZ topsites and they were all standard. I started with one of them..then started learning the script and operating system of it.
I learnt CSS programming, so much so, KiwiTopsite is W3C/CSS compliant. I try to be professional and good at things I try. If I can do it then I can offer my help to other New Zealand webmasters. I expect it from them,
They should expect it from me.

By using a Google product called Google AJAX Feed API and a week of trial and error.
The Google AJAX Feed API is a JavaScript API that enables developers to easily use data from public feeds in their AJAX applications. The AJAX Feed API comes with Google hosted server-side
technology to proxy and parse feeds from any source and exposes the data through a JavaScript API which can be used purely from a client browser.
JavaScript developers now have access to any feed data from any host! So we can pull your feed directly from your website..to ours, but you have all the control over what people see.

Every other topsite has a whole heap of text stats. These can look rather boring and unprofessional. I have taken the time to change mine into some good looking real time graphs. Some text stats are still the but for Daily page views and Daily votes have changed to graphs using flash!.

Rate and Review
Also from the stats page visitors can rate and leave review comments about a website or service. These are approved by the admin before they show up, but only for offensive language. If the review is a negative review it will still be approved
as this is the experience that the reviewer had.
