Why Help Others?

Where would I find a good webmaster forum? One that if I post a problem someone will give me an answer straight up. No strings.

This can be a extremely long and difficult task, especially if you need to sieve through many so called webmaster forums

I was hoping one day this forum would become a webmasters forum but obviously not, as no one seems to be interested in it except for a couple of us, oh well we will still plod on when we can.

There is a problem in NZ that webmasters and developers don't post or help others for free. They don't offer information and most are not webmasters at all. Most website owners in NZ are the ones that pay another to make, host and edit their basic sites...and are willing to pay through the nose for that service. Thats fine for some. I know some programmers charge up to $300 for a simple image and text edit and it is sad that for a editor and 10 minutes, owners can do it for free and either just don't know how or not told that they can do it themselves.

I am a member of heaps of NZ forums (don't bother visiting much) and they are basicly dead in the water. Each and every post is the first post of a member and no one has bothered to tell the answer so don't return. The latest post would be two months old. Even game developers are the same. I just can not work it out why NZ are slow at it. I have sent many, many emails out to New Zealand site owners with offers or requests for something and
1) I never hear from them
or
2) I get a ridiculous, sometimes offensive email back with "whats in it for me?" (that was for a seach engine)

And all they had to do was add something or send me something.

I blew up a game developers forum for having a whole heap of posts about 'where' 'how' can I advertise my flash games. I made a thread and told them to edit the games or shorten them and edit for my arcade and I will add them for free, called viral marketing, I will advertise their games for them, release it to 20,000 other arcades all for FREE. Only needed one game each.Good for them, good for me. That post got to 4 months old and further requests. I blew them a new ring. I will also add that their requests of 'how too?' was never answered by anybody in the industry.

I get more offers, advertising and support from international webmasters than I guess I ever would from a NZ one.

Its all about making internet friends, building a reputation with others in the game so they believe what you say, believe the fix you offer for their problem so that these guys say 'hey,he is alright I'll support this venture..buy this advert...reciprocate his link, help this person etc.'

When I started a certain website I researched New Zealand ones..I couldn't believe the amount of crappy and mostly unheard of, never seen, online websites out there. Even some of the web designers sites are the worst I have ever seen. I couldn't believe it. The websites these owners have are ones that have a shop name with opening hours and thats it, and it costs them 100s $$$ a year. Thing is, site owners, I don't think, are the webmasters for those sites. They have no idea that it is not being seen on the net. Same as here at the moment. Join add you site link and thats it, took them 5 minutes to do. They think adding their website and not doing what is requested is getting them what they want..its not...

I have 5 or 6 bizlinks websites on my search site, obviously made for customers, not one of them has the button. But the impression is made for the owners that these sites are made for. Bizlinks will send them email saying your site is added here, and here, and here but they are not helping my site or the owners sites. It looks good, thanks is given, payment is made but it has not helped them at all.

I just spent 33 minutes on a webmaster site helping a person with something, and at the end he bought 6 weeks banner advertising from me..all because I helped him, supported what he wanted done and made a reputation with him.

Sorry for the rant, but NZ webbies is one of my pet hates, that gets me going....
